Fisherman’s Trail

The Fisherman’s Trail is the coastline part of the Rota Vicentina network of paths in SW Portugal. It can be started or ended at various points or be intertwined with the inland path, The Historical Way. There are many excellent sites online that describe what others have chosen to do and here we present ours- a true choose-your-own-adventure hike!

START POINT: Lagos in the Algarve (south) ENDPOINT: Porto Covo (north) DISTANCE: 229 km DAYS ON HIKE: 11 AVERAGE TIME HIKING PER DAY: 4-5 hrs

Like a “Camino” style hike and because wild camping is not condoned in Portugal, we stayed in villages each night. We chose to pre book all our accommodation before we set out through booking.com. Below is a chart (may need a magnifying glass) that lists where we stayed in April 2023…keep in mind how things can change in time.

This blog is far more informational than others we have posted but bear with me and we will get to the photos! Instead of writing out my voice recordings from each day on this trail, I will simply insert them. It takes about 5.5 minutes to listen to each if you so desire. You will find lots of detail about daily weather, the pattern of the trail and, curious thoughts and images that we came across. I mention almost daily how relaxed and enjoyable I felt on trail- and being unedited I do yawn a few times…sorry.
